Hi all, this is Michele. I’ve been receiving so many messages from people wanting to know what happened to Alan and how he is doing that I’m starting to worry that I’m going to lose track and miss responding to someone, so I thought it would be easiest just to put an update here on the blog.
For those of you who are confused, Alan went in for a relatively simple medical procedure last week and, due to sheer idiocy on the doctor’s part, developed complications that resulted in Alan having a serious systemic infection. By Tuesday (Aug 27) he was unconscious and on life support in another hospital’s Trauma ICU unit, following an emergency abdominal surgery that they had to abandon because his blood pressure wouldn’t stay up. They were able to complete the surgery on Wednesday, and it’s been days of wait-and-see with little improvement since then.
Yesterday he regained full consciousness and was able to start communicating with me through head movements and finger guestures since the ventilator keeps him from speaking. No, he hasn’t flipped me off yet, but I’m sure that’s coming! His blood pressure is stable now and the bacterial load in his blood is decreasing thanks to temporary dialysis. Translation: the infection is still there and he’s on a lot of drugs and equipment, but he’s improving so far. That’s pretty much all we know right now. They have no idea if he’s going to remain stable, how long his healing may take, or if his body sustained any permanent damage from all of this, so we’re just taking it day by day. And yes, I do want to try to sue the fuck out of the doctor who put him in this position.
Right now I want to say thank you to everyone who has called, eMailed, or sent messages on the social networks giving us support. It’s appreciated more than you know, by both of us. So anywhoo, don’t forget us just yet… we’re still here, and I’m staying confident that Alan & I will be back to doing what we do eventually.
Love to all,
